Railways in the Garden of England

"Those Victorians knew their stuff didn't they! In the pursuit of sun and health they developed the resorts of Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings, each different in feel but all still magnets for holidaymakers. They also gave us railways and you can take two rides through completely different scenery during this short break".

Day 3 A free day in one of the seaside resorts of the south-east. Brighton offers a lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere, delightful little shops in The Lanes and the magnificent Pavilion. Eastbourne has a calmer atmosphere with its beautiful carpet gardens along the promenade and Hastings provides cliffs and interesting small museums.

Day 4 Follow the coast eastwards stopping in the beautiful little town of Rye for a visit. Ride on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch, a narrow gauge railway that still provides an important service for local people. Return through lovely Kentish villages including Pluckley which claims to be England's most haunted village and was the setting for the popular Darling Buds of May TV series.

Day 5 Leave Sussex for the return journey.
