You are invited to the Royal Diamond Jubilee!
16 Feb 2012
Living in St Albans, 20 miles from London at the time I can remember the Coronation, as my family bought a 12” Ultra TV, the only one in our street, and all the family were at our house to watch the broadcast. Afterwards my friends and I went to the Lake at Verulamium to watch the fireworks. It was sixty years ago Monday, February 6tha 25-year-old woman visiting a game reserve in Kenya got a message that her father had died. She was staying at William Holden`s resort Treetops. She went up a ladder to her quarters at night a Princess and came down a Queen.Flying home home to London. Prime Minister Winston Churchill met her at the airport - with her father dead, she had become Queen Elizabeth II. Celebrations of her Diamond Jubilee, marking six decades on the throne, officially began Monday February 6th,and continue through June, when London will mark the anniversary of her coronation with festivities including up to 1,000 boats sailing up the River Thames.
Come and join all the Brits, and Londoners in celebrating, as only we know how!!
